Otahuna Lodge

Otahuna is hidden away in Tai Tapu, just twenty-five minutes drive from Christchurch in the glorious South Island of New Zealand. Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island and the magnificent Southern Alps.

Otahuna Lodge is an exclusive country estate offering 5 suites and 2 master suites. Each retains architectural features from the 19th century such as ornate original fireplaces, carved inglenooks and stained glass windows. All luxury suites offer super-king beds, fine custom-made linens, artisanal toiletries, deep bathtubs and separate rain showers.

The cuisine celebrates the best of seasonal New Zealand produce, with an emphasis on fresh Otahuna estate-grown offerings. Dinner is a four-course chef’s degustation menu which changes daily, making use of the best fresh produce and guests’ dietary requirements. Honest, uncluttered flavours, the finest local ingredients and elegantly restrained presentation are the hallmarks of the Otahuna table.At dinner, guests dine communally in the opulent formal dining room where ornate original wallpaper, a roaring fire and sparkling candlesticks exemplify the gracious living of the Victorian era. Alternatively, they may retreat to a private table for two in the sunken wine cellar, the intimate library, the drawing room turret, or a location of their choosing.

The spectacular 110-year old gardens of Otahuna were laid out and cultivated under the direction of A. E. Lowe who trained at Kew Gardens, London.Wide vistas over lawn and lake contrast beautifully with intimate walks which wind through heavily wooded areas.The gardens of the country estate offer a range of guest amenities and activities including swimming, tennis, croquet and petanque among others.

Otahuna Lodge is the perfect base camp for exploring the wider Canterbury Region. Area activities that can be arranged include private garden tours, horse riding, golf, heliskiing, fishing and hunting excursions. The Lodge is also conveniently located for the scenic French settlement of Akaroa with its fascinating marine life, the varied recreational offerings of the Southern Alps, and the Waipara wine region.

After a busy day of exploring, guests may enjoy the benefits of luxury accommodation by indulging in a relaxing or therapeutic massage. Therapists provide a range of treatments, styles and pressures to accommodate a wide variety of preferences.

Due to our intimate size, cancellations affect us greatly. As a result, we adhere to a strict cancellation policy. If your reservation is cancelled fewer than thirty days before your visit, a charge of one night’s tariff per suite booked will be applied to the credit card.

Should we receive less than fourteen days notice of cancellation we will charge for the total accommodation amount. We will endeavour to re-book your suite and will refund your deposit if we are successful. We strongly advise guests to take out travel insurance to protect themselves against unexpected changes to their travel plans.

For groups (4 rooms or more) a charge of one night’s tariff per suite booked will be incurred if the reservation is cancelled fewer than sixty days prior to arrival. All group reservations cancelled fewer than 30 days prior to arrival incur charges for the total accommodation amount.
