The story of The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia began in 2000, but the hotel’s building has a history that goes back more than 100 years. Originally built as the home of The Girard Trust Company between 1904 and 1908, the former bank building features an eight-story tower, rotunda and neoclassical style reflective of the era.
Today, the hotel blends its classic charm with contemporary style and is a Historic District highlight. The past is perfectly preserved with inspirations from this classic architecture seen in the luxury hotel rooms, grand meeting spaces and an elegant 30th floor Club Lounge. The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge is set within what was formerly the Executive Board Room of Girard Trust. The brass clock and original lighting fixtures still remain, as does the original carved wood paneling. This paneling is made out of French walnut, a wood that is now extinct.
