Our Story
What started as a watch company in 2011 has grown to be so much more. Shinola is a Detroit-based luxury lifestyle brand with an unwavering commitment to making products—from timepieces to leather goods—well and that last. The brand is rooted in celebrating quality design and craftsmanship, and it’s exactly why the company had an early desire to create a place where visitors and locals could experience timeless design and handcrafted hospitality.
Even the hotel property itself fuses past, present and future through timeless design and time-honored technique. The hotel spans five buildings, including the historic former Singer Building and the T.B. Rayl Co. Store built in 1915. Throughout construction, there was an underlying commitment to restore the two buildings to their original look and feel, ensuring these structures would shine in the new century and for many to come. Bespoke details and one-of-a-kind guest rooms seamlessly blend original character with modern luxury.
