About
Palazzo Manfredi is an elegant hideaway in the center of what was once imperial Rome. The charming 17th century palace has spectacular views of the Colosseum, the Forum, and the Domus Aurea, combined with superb hospitality. Built over the ruins of the Ludus Magnus, the gymnasium used by Roman gladiators, Palazzo Manfredi was the hunting pavilion of the Guidi gardens. Today it is tastefully adorned with art ranging from 16th century antique paintings to contemporary pieces. The hotel offers an intimate experience, crowned only by a meal at the hotel’s Aroma restaurant where the unparalleled vistas of ancient Rome are beautifully matched by the culinary delights.
Location - Ludus Magnus
We are right above it. It is part of our very foundations. The Great Game, as the literal translation of Ludus Magnus goes, was the largest and most important of Rome’s gladiatorial schools, and was located beside the Colosseum, connected to the latter by an underground passage.
1 minute away - Colosseum
Sixty seconds to the Colosseum. Just step out of our hotel, take a few steps, and you’re there, before the largest amphitheatre in the world, the symbol par excellence of Ancient Rome and Italy. Construction was begun by Vespasian in 72 AD and was completed eight years later under the Emperor Titus. The Colosseum's magnificent arena, seating up to 80,000 spectators, was dedicated to gladiatorial games and, because the stage could be “flooded”, was also used re-enact the greatest naval battles. The Colosseum was abandoned after the 6th century, becoming a quarry. Interestingly, the name “Colosseum” originates from the nearby Colossus Neronis.
Restaurant & Bar
At Michelin starred AROMA at Palazzo Manfredi, quintessential Rome is reflected in a menu of classic Italian dishes on a picturesque outdoor terrace offering an unparalleled Colosseum view. At 40 seat restaurant is at once intimate and grandiose, ideal for everything from romantic dinners to private parties. The Manfredi Fine Hotel Collection’s Palazzo Manfredi in Rome is now home to AROMA Bistro where guests can enjoy a more informal take on the experience offered at the property’s Michelin-starred AROMA Restaurant, at the hands of the same chef. Diners at AROMA Bistro can expect a faster, more laid-back meal, as dishes are less complex and therefore take less time to prepare, making AROMA Bistro an easy stop to work into an itinerary even on busy days.
On summer 2019 it has been opened the new Cocktail Bar The Court, with a unique view of the Coliseum. The Bar offers a wide range of innovative drinks with revolutionary techniques by some of the most famous Italian mixologists, right in front of the “Ludus Magnus”. Behind the counter, this new project is led by world-famous Matteo Zed who is now in Rome after international experiences between Japan and New York City.
